Type :fire: and get 🔥 in any app on Windows.
The emoji shortcodes you know from Discord, now everywhere you type. Free, open source, and it never goes online.
Type :sad or :skull, then press Enter.
The real app, in real windows.
No mockups. This is Emoji Anywhere running on Windows 11.
Three keys. That's it.
It only wakes up when you type a colon after a space or at the start of a line. Everything else you type is left alone.
-
1Type a colon and two letters
A small popup shows matching emojis right at your text cursor.
-
2Pick one
Arrow keys, then Enter or Tab. Or just click it.
-
3Keep typing
The code turns into the emoji. Type a full code like :fire: and it converts on its own.
Nothing you type leaves your PC.
An app that sees your keyboard has to earn your trust. So every promise comes with a way to check it.
It never goes online
There is no networking code in the app. Search the source for HttpClient or Socket, or block it in your firewall and watch it keep working.
It never saves what you type
Typed text only lives in memory while the popup is open. The only file it writes holds your settings and a count of which emojis you picked.
No accounts, no tracking
Nothing to sign up for and nothing sent anywhere. This website has no cookies and no analytics either.
The download matches the code
Every release is built by GitHub from the public code, with a signed record of which commit it came from.
Small app. Lots of care.
The details that make it feel like part of Windows.
Every emoji, every skin tone
All emojis up to Emoji 17.0, with Discord, Slack and GitHub codes like :thumbsup_tone3:.
Search by meaning
Not sure of the name? :sad finds 😢 and 😭.
Learns your favorites
The emojis you use most move to the top, so you type less over time.
Stays out of the way
Times like 10:30 and links never trigger it. It skips password fields and any app you tell it to ignore.
<10 ms
for the popup to show after you type.
~8 MB
of memory while it waits in the tray.
3,998
emojis, skin tones included.
Settings live in the tray.
Click the tray icon to pause it, pick the popup size, or tell it to ignore an app. It follows your Windows light or dark mode.
Questions
Windows says it protected my PC. Is it safe?
That message shows for apps that are new and not yet signed with a paid certificate. Click "More info", then "Run anyway". The full source is public, and each download is built by GitHub from that source.
Why does it need to see my keyboard?
To notice when you type a colon. That is the whole trick. It ignores everything else and never stores or sends it.
Does it work in games?
Yes, it is built to work in game chats that take normal typing. In windowed or borderless mode the popup shows over the game. In exclusive fullscreen Windows does not let any app draw on top, so type the full code like :skull: and it converts without the popup. If a game ignores the emoji, turn on paste mode for it in the tray panel. Whether the emoji shows up depends on the game's font. We have not tested specific games yet, so tell us how it goes.
What about apps running as administrator?
Windows does not let normal apps read keys typed into admin windows, so it will not work there unless you also run it as administrator.
Is it really free?
Yes. No ads, no premium version, no account. It is open source under the MIT license.
How do I remove it?
Open Windows Settings, then Apps, find Emoji Anywhere and click Uninstall. It removes the app and its settings.
